Danmarkshavn

Danmarkshavn station is owned by the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) and operated by TELE Greenland. However, ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) covers the expenses deferred from operating Danmarkshavn.

The station is an all-year facility with eight persons working and living at the site. The main building holds staff accommodation, catering facilities as well as living and working rooms. Danmarkshavn is resupplied by cargo ship in August every second year. This is the northernmost location on the east coast that non-icebreaking vessels can plan to reach.

Apart from the darkest winter period Danmarkshavn provisions, material and personnel are brought in or out on monthly charter flights with Twin Otter from Iceland.

Danmarkshavn appears to be an obvious hub for research logistics in the Dove Bay region, but the currently available facilities at the station restrict the opportunities.

Researchers in need for project logistics in the Danmarkshavn region will have to establish contact at an early planning stage to DPC, attn.: Morten Rasch.
