High Arctic Institute

The Peregrine Fund operates a facility at Thule Air Base (Pituffik) to support its own programs but will consider providing logistical support for other scientific researchers and projects.

The facility at Thule has berthing for 11 researchers, wet and dry labs, offices, large freezer space, wood shop, equipment shop, storage space, TV room, laundry facilities, and bathing and toilet facilities. In addition all researchers have access to e-mail, internet, fax, and direct dial connections out of Thule. Berthing for larger groups can potentially be arranged upon request.

For field research the High Arctic Institute has a large inventory of field equipment with the capability of setting up field camps for up to 20 researchers in addition to smaller and more mobile camps.

Further, the High Arctic Institute has trucks, ATVs, several small boats, and a boat that potentially can be used by researchers within a radius of 250 miles of Thule.

The Thule facility is staffed year round. Staff have over 35 years of experience working in the Thule area. The Peregrine Fund conducts its own research each year focusing on Peregrines and Gyrfalcons in addition to other fauna.

The staff has extensive and intricate knowledge of the area and many local contacts at Thule and the Greenlandic towns and villages in North Greenland. Assistance can also be given to researchers in obtaining the proper clearance and permits to work in both Greenland and on Thule Air Base.
Scientific researchers are taken on a first come first serve basis and typically it is best to contact us at least six to 12 months ahead of time.
